Data controller

The data controller for personal data processed via this website is Desymphony EOOD, registered office at [Sofia address, BG — operator to confirm], email [email protected]. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), we determine the purposes and means of processing of personal data.

What data we collect

motfailcode.uk is a static informational site. We do not require an account, we do not display contact forms, and the defect-code decoder runs entirely in your browser — the codes you paste are never transmitted to our servers.

The only personal data we process is:

  • Aggregate analytics. If you accept analytics cookies, we collect first-party Google Analytics 4 measurements (page paths, anonymised IP address, country, device class, referrer) for aggregate audience reporting. We do not link this data to any personally identifiable information.
  • Functional cookies.A small set of strictly necessary cookies remember your consent choice so we don’t re-prompt you on every page.

Lawful basis

We rely on your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) for analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for essential operational measurements such as anonymised error logs and security events.

Your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — Article 15 UK GDPR
  • Right to rectification — Article 16
  • Right to erasure (right to be forgotten) — Article 17
  • Right to restriction of processing — Article 18
  • Right to data portability — Article 20
  • Right to object — Article 21
  • Rights related to automated decision-making and profiling — Article 22
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — see https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within one calendar month.

International data transfers

Personal data may be processed by Desymphony EOODin Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a member state of the European Union, and the UK recognises the European Economic Area as offering equivalent protection for personal data under the updated post-Brexit transfer regime (most recently the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, Schedules 7–9; the European Commission’s UK adequacy decision was renewed in December 2025). Your data therefore continues to receive equivalent protection to that required by UK law.

Retention

Aggregate analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for 14 months (the GA4 default). Cookie-consent preferences are stored in your browser’s localStorage until you clear them.

How to contact us or lodge a complaint

For any privacy concern, email [email protected]. If you remain dissatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the law or our practices change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
